About this project
Also known as the “Million Dollar Bridge”, the Jefferson Street Bridge originally opened to traffic in May 1921. It is know as the "Million Dollar Bridge" because it cost one million dollars to construct in 1921. It was one of the earliest reinforced concrete arch bridges in the country. The bridge has a total length of 1,266 feet and is carried over the Monongahela River by three (3), 250’ arches.

This project involved the historical restoration, which began in 1997. The completion of this renovation required the reconstruction of the Pier, Rib Wall and Deck on both approaches and all three arches. This incorporated a variety of materials including 3,085 cubic meters of structural concrete, 6,400 square meters of pneumatically applied dry-mixed shotcrete, 760 meters of architectural pre-cast parapet and light poles and 4,734 square meters of engineering mesh to prevent corrosion.
What's unique about this project?
This bridge is on the National Register of Historic Places.[1]

The bridge is known as the Jefferson Street Bridge, the Robert H. Mollohan-Jefferson Street Bridge, the Million Dollar Bridge, and the High Level Bridge
