Our education collaborators are working on programs to implement the app in STEM classrooms and clubs for kids and teens nationally and around the world to learn about how engineering shapes our every day lives. Kids and teens in these programs will be invited to connect with engineers through the app so they can meet and interact with professionals in their fields of interest. Please contact us to learn more about the program and how you can participate.

I am...

An adaptable and hard-working Latin woman graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

I chose to be a Civil Engineer,Environmental Engineer because...

I've always been good at math and solving problems, so I knew engineering would be my career path. My father and Grandfather were Civil engineers, and they helped me understand and see the possibilities and flexibilities of civil engineering. I was soon attracted to the idea of using my skills to create and improve the infrastructure of my community, as well as, protect the environment in which we live.

This is My Story

When I graduated from High School, I knew with certainty that I wanted to be a Civil engineer. My journey started back in Venezuela, where I coursed two wonderful years of my career in a recognized university in my city. Unfortunately, during the same time, the crisis and great depression in Venezuela started to grow and to dangerously affect the lives of Venezuelans. After going to tough experiences with the increasing crime and corruption in the country, I was lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to go to the U.S to study and have a better quality of life. I moved to California in 2016, where I was soon alone in a new country with a different language and culture to adapt to. Hoping to find a way to keep pursuing my Bachelor's in Civil engineering. After 5 months of learning English and researching universities in the area, I was able to transfer my 2 years of school to San Francisco State University.

Three years later, I finally graduated with honors with a Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering at SFSU. Leaving my country and family behind was a tough decision, but one that taught a valuable lesson that helped me developed skills that today made a better person and engineer. Since last summer, I've been working part-time as a Soils Assistant engineering in Oakland, where I've been able to work with residential projects involving foundations, retaining walls and drainage designs and inspections. Being working in the field has been an incredible experience, and I'm looking forward to finding a full-time job that would keep challenge me to be a better engineer to help my coworkers and community grow.
