Our education collaborators are working on programs to implement the app in STEM classrooms and clubs for kids and teens nationally and around the world to learn about how engineering shapes our every day lives. Kids and teens in these programs will be invited to connect with engineers through the app so they can meet and interact with professionals in their fields of interest. Please contact us to learn more about the program and how you can participate.
Technical and Software Expertise
I am a chemistry and German student. I currently work as a tutor in chemistry, and I hope to tutor in German as well.
I am...
a chemistry student with a passion for German. I want to bridge cultures using science as a way to connect people and explain phenomena from multiple perspectives.
I chose to be a Chemist because...
I want to help solve puzzles that lead to advancements in society. Chemistry is about having the pieces and putting them together in a meaningful way to get a desired outcome, and then being able to reproduce and explain that process. I want to solve these puzzles and harness them to be useful to society.
I like my job because...
I get to work on puzzles, solve interesting problems, learn constantly, meet new people, discuss work that I'm passionate about and interested in, and ask questions.
My typical day at work involves...
As as student, I spend much of my time studying or in the lab, but I also love to do trivia night with my friends.
I want others to know...
I want everyone to know that they can find a place for them. It is important to keep trying, and you will never have to get stuck in a rut. If your plans are derailed, you'll find another path that will take you there or even someplace far more exciting.
My STEM education has helped me ...
My STEM education helped provide me an internship opportunity in Chennai, India, when I had never before left the United States.
This is My Story
My dad was a geophysist. He always inspired me to pursue chemistry and he never once didn't answer a question that I had. I would ask questions constantly. I would ask in the car. At a baseball game. During dinner. During breakfast. During lunch. During a midnight snack. I would ask him anything and everything and he fostered that passion and curiosity, always pushing me to grow and learn, but also lifting me back up when I fell. Reminding me that I didn't have to take the hardest path or the straightest path, but that I would always end up somewhere that I enjoyed and that I could always move forward. He also constantly reminded me to enjoy the journey. Since then, I had a set of fantastic teachers that continued to foster my curiosity, using non-standard techniques to ask questions. Techniques that appealed to my thought process which occurs through seeing similarities, making connections, and describing everything in metaphor or analogy.

What classes have you used most?
Organic Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Computer Science: Python, Differential Equations, Physics: Mechanics and Relativity, and Physics: Electricity, Magnetism, and Thermodynamics
What skills have been most important to your career?
My coding skills in Python, Java, and MATLAB have been some of my most useful skills. Additionally, my ability to ask questions and make interdisciplinary connections have been essential to my success. I would also say that all my chemistry lab skills are quite useful.
