About
Born May 26, 1837, Washington was the oldest son of civil engineer John Roebling. He assisted his father in the design of the Allegheny River Bridge.
When his father passed away during the planning process for the Brooklyn Bridge, Washington succeeded him as Chief Engineer.
After suffering from decompression sickness (then known as "the bends") Washington employed his wife, Emily, to see that his specific instructions were carried out on-site.
Roebling died on July 21, 1926
